July in the garden.

Not much is happening in the main vegie plot so we have moved the animals in to help us clear it and work the soil for us.

Garfunkel & U2 (Joy) above and below with Buddy the goat and a few of our older girls

We have 10 new chickens to help in this huge task.

One of the joys of waking up early to let the girls out of their shed is that I get to enjoy beautiful sunrises such as the first and last photo.

blogtoberfest day 29 - first roses of the season

my roses are also loving the rain we are having at the moment and most of my bushes are well laden.
I have cut just a few roses to put in the house, there's still plenty more on the bushes.
Don't forget there just a few more days to enter my giveaway. Comment on any post to gain an extra entry - the more posts you comment on the more entries you get.

Lawn mowers

We are now the proud owners of twin powered lawn mowers, 2 Dorper sheep. They have been named Simon & Garfunkel They will live in our three paddocks and they can just make there way between each of the paddocks as the need for juicy juicy green grass (TY Peter Coombe) takes them. We have put a water container (an old cistern picked up at the junkyard) with a bob flow to keep their water fresh. At this point they have taken refuge in our far paddock where there is no water - we have been told they will make their own way to where the water supply is.

We had to do a little work on the paddock before the sheep could move in including batter fencing along one side of the paddocks.

We also had to do quite a bit of trimming the pine trees as they were quite overgrown where the fencing needed to go. We now have a massive pile of bush waiting to me turned into mulch.
I have also spent a little bit of time pruning my plum tree and rose bushes - I know it's a bit late - I could never seem to find the motivation to do it. Well they are done now.

More Frogs - green ones this time

Thought I would start this post with who is normally the star of our garden - our beautiful border collie Ziggy Stardust. isn't he gorgeous?

The frog story continues.....................

But now we have green ones. I would have last month that frogs scare me - I loved to look at pics but didn't want them near me. But I must admit I am warming to these ones - they just better not jump on me as I am sure that would be an entirely different story.

I have no idea where these frogs have come from as we really don't have a suitable hatching area on our property - ie no ponds but 2 tiny little water features that often are dry from Ziggy drinking from them. There are however a few properties with dams so maybe they have migrated from there.

I also have no idea what type of frogs these are. Let me know if you do.

Some have a lot of brown on them like this one - which is why I wondered if these were the little brown frogs just maturing.

Frog party in the weeds.

It really is cute, isn't it??????
